Rashard Allen, worship director

The worship director leads the planning process and coordination all Sunday morning worship services in the sanctuary, as well as special worship events throughout the year. The worship director also leads various worship music ensembles (praise bands, choirs, etc.) as well as coordinates with leaders of other worship art groups (dance, drama, singing ensembles, altar design, etc.)

Rashard Allen is originally from Slatington, Pa. (near Allentown). After high school, Rashard studied at Oberlin College/Conservatory of Music where he holds degrees in vocal performance and economics. While at Oberlin, Rashard was involved with Oberlin Christian Fellowship as well as Agape Christian Fellowship, where he served as president for two years. Rashard continued his education at Perkins School of Theology and Meadows School for the Arts, both divisions of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. There he earned master’s degrees in sacred music and vocal performance. Since then, Rashard has served as the full-time worship leader for Northminster Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pa., and has served as worship director at Hempfield UMC for the past 6 years.

Rashard is also a songwriter, a husband (to Michele Allen) and a father of three beautiful children, Andrew, Elizabeth and Deborah. He is also an avid sports fan (particularly pro basketball).
