Collection Dates: Sunday, July 4 through Friday, October 1
“The idea of the Garden Harvest ministry began two years ago after watching my children enjoying sugar snap peas right off the vines. I wanted other children to have the same chance to have vegetables that actually taste good because they are fresh. I also had times when my garden produced more than we could eat, and I hated to see good food go to waste…” – excerpt from Deb Franck, coordinator. Donations of fresh fruits and vegetables can be dropped off at the church at any time the church lobby is open from Sunday, July 4 – Friday, October 1. The office door to the church is generally open Monday – Thursday 9-4 and Friday 9-12 during the summer. There is limited space for very perishable items such as lettuce, berries, corn, etc. in the refrigerator behind the Spirit Café (the receptionist can give you the key). All items placed in the refrigerator MUST BE LABELED “GARDEN HARVEST.” Many ministries use the refrigerator, and our drivers can’t take something to donate if they aren’t sure it was meant for Garden Harvest. Vegetables that don’t need to go in the fridge can go in the Donation Station bin in the lobby. Donations are picked up Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
In addition to needing people to provide fresh produce (and produce does not need to be homegrown. Store-bought produce is equally appreciated), we also need drivers. Drivers need to be able to drive Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the day. They pick up the produce at the church and deliver it to one location each day. We aim to have each driver only be responsible for 1 or 2 weeks during the summer.
