Annual Martin Luther King Commemoration Service | Jan. 15
NAACP-Lancaster, PA Branch proudly announces its Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Service to be held on Sunday January 15, 2012 at 7:00pm. The location of the event is Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 South Duke Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.
Even more exciting is this year’s speaker Lancaster’s “beloved” minister-Elder, Dr. Irvin Scott! He will speak on the topic “Mordecai, Martin, and Me!” We are looking forward to a time of fellowship, enlightenment, and paying tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. King!

Sister Friend and Show Me the Franklins | Jan. 26
Theatre for Transformation will present two one-act plays about African American history written by Dr. Amanda Kemp on January 26 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ware Center of Millersville University-Lancaster, 42 N. Prince Street, Lancaster.
The evening will begin with “Sister Friend,” a play infused with spirituals and gospel that delves into the friendship between enslaved celebrity poet Phillis Wheatly and her best friend Obour Tanner.
“Show Me the Franklins!,” which highlights the enslaved people in Benjamin Franklin’s households in London, Paris, and Philadelphia, will conclude the evening. The plays are suitable for ages 8 and up.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, Thursday night’s performance is Pay What You Can; donations will be taken at the door. Sing For Hope | Jan. 21

The 4th Annual Sing for Hope, Winter Opera Gala will be held on Saturday evening, Jan. 21, at the Fulton Theatre and will include a range of musical styles, from spirituals and operatic pieces to excerpts from well-loved musicals. Inspired by the 30-year legacy of MCC’s Global Family Program, all of the performers donate their time and their talents for both the concert and a master class. The concert proceeds enrich the lives of children and families around the globe by generating valuable funds for hundreds of educational and community projects.
