KIDS KONNECTION FALL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
This fall we are re-structuring our elementary classes to allow teachers and team leaders to rotate so they can attend a contemporary service. To do this, we need to expand our volunteer base to include additional teachers and team leaders for first, second, fifth and sixth grades. Adults and teens interested should contact Nancy Herman at nherman@hempfieldumc.com.
AFRICAN CHILDREN’S CHOIR HELP NEEDED
The African Children’s Choir will be returning here for a concert in October and we are in need of volunteers to assist us with the coordination of this exciting event. If you are interested in helping, please contact Pastor John at jlongmire@hempfieldumc.com.
24-HOUR PRAYER VIGIL
For a 24-hour period beginning at noon today, we are holding a Prayer Vigil for the team that will be en route to Wachara, Kenya. Sign up for a half-hour time slot to pray on the table outside of the Prayer Room. Please note: The building will only be open for prayer during normal business hours.
PASTOR JOHN’S PRINTS
Pastor John will be selling prints of some of his artwork to benefit Building Hope. You can see his paintings and purchase prints in the Spirit Cafe today.
DONATION STATION FOR AUGUST
The LUMINA School Uniform Bank at Pearl Street UMC has served approximately 1,800 students each year, providing, on average, two sets of uniforms for each child in the School District of Lancaster’s homeless students program. You can help by providing new or gently used uniform clothing this month. In addition, we will be collecting fresh vegetables and fruits through September for the Garden Harvest ministry. Stop by the donation station to pick up the list of clothing for the uniform bank.
FALL CAMPOUT
Let’s go Camping! The Hempfield UMC Fall Campout will be at Mill Bridge Village Camp Resort, Oct. 29, 30 and 31. We have eight sites reserved. Sites are all water and electricity only. The cost is $34.10 per night. Reservations must be made by Oct. 10. Please send your check for your complete stay, payable to Mill Bridge Campresort, to Rick Koelsch at 234 Walnut Hill Rd., Millersville, PA 17551. SPIRIT CAFE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Are you looking for a way to meet others in our church? Are you looking for an opportunity to serve here at Hempfield UMC? If so, you should consider becoming a server in the Spirit Cafe. This ministry allows you the opportunity to serve coffee and snacks to the church family on Sunday mornings while providing a welcoming atmosphere and a smile to all those who visit the Spirit Cafe each week. No specialized skills are needed; all you need to do is be willing to serve others, smile and be friendly. SAFE SANCTUARY TRAINING
The next training session is today, Aug. 29, at 11:30 a.m. in Room 124. This training is required for anyone interested in volunteering to work with children, youth or vulnerable adults within our church.
SUMMER YOUTH PICNIC
The picnic is today, Aug. 29, from 2-4 p.m. in the Hempfield UMC pavilion. We’ll have food, fun, & games, as well as a last chance to hang out before school begins. SHOUT youth, their families and friends are welcome. Girls, please bring a side dish/salad or some fruit or veggies to share. Guys, please bring a dessert to share. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided.
SAFE SANCTUARY TRAINING
Training is today Aug. 29, from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m., in Room 124. All SHOUT volunteers who have not previously been trained (or those of you who would like to begin helping with SHOUT this year, but haven’t been trained) will need to attend this 45-minute training.
PRAYER BREAKFAST
The Prayer Breakfast begins Sept. 1, and continues every Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. Start your day off right! Youth, grades 7-12, meet at Grand Central on Centerville Road. We will have some breakfast, chat with our friends, and pray. You will need to bring money for your breakfast and arrange for your own ride to school.
BABYSITTER LIST
Copies of the 2010 Hempfield UMC Babysitter List are now available in both the Toddler and Crib Nurseries. This is a list of those from the church who are available for hire to do babysitting. If you would have any questions regarding this list, please contact Carol Hulstine at 290-6880 or childcare@hempfieldumc.com.
KIDSTUF PREMIERE
Mark your calendars now! Kidstuf season premier will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m. Bring your family … bring your friends. You won’t want to miss it!

SPIRIT CAFE AFTER HOURS
Mark your calendar for Sunday, Sept. 26 (rescheduled from Sept. 17) and plan to join us for a social event/lunch in the Spirit Cafe beginning at 11:30 a.m. This is for anyone in an existing small group or interested in getting plugged into one. Child care will be provided. Sign up if you plan to attend in the lobby or on the website.
NEW SMALL GROUPS FORMING
