These were the announcements printed in the bulletin on Aug. 8, 2010.
KIDS KONNECTION FALL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
This fall we are re-structuring our elementary KK classes to allow our teachers and team leaders to rotate so that they can attend a contemporary service. Thus, we need to expand our volunteer base to include additional teachers and team leaders in grades 1st, 2nd, 5th & 6th. Adults and teens interested should please contact Nancy Herman with questions or for additional information at nherman@hempfieldumc.com.
CARE PACKS FOR THE ORPHANS IN KENYA
Want to put a care package together to send to kids in Wachara, Kenya? Seven people, including Pastor John, will be going over to Africa at the end of August to personally hand-deliver the care packages, meet the people of Hope UMC and spend time with the children involved with Life for Children Ministry. Toiletries are much needed, but not frequently available in Wachara and are very expensive, so you would be helping to meet the needs of the orphans, and help share the love of Jesus. Please pick up the care pack list at the Building Hope table. Deadline has been extended to Friday, Aug. 20.
UMW
The United Methodist Women will hold their annual indoor picnic on Wednesday, Aug. 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the Spirit Cafe. Each person attending is asked to bring a salad, casserole or dessert for the buffet. Following the meal, there will be a time of fellowship and games. A cordial invitation is extended to the women of the church to be part of this fun-filled evening.
MEN AT THE CROSS
A group of guys from our church will be attending the local Men At The Cross event at Calvary Church on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Jack Richards has discounted tickets available for $25 (deadline is Aug. 16). Contact him at 464-2753 if you are interested in attending. Send him a check payable to Hempfield UMC at 86 Locust Lane, Willow Street, PA 17584 to reserve your ticket.
EAT AND RAISE $$ FOR BUILDING HOPE
Eat at Isaac’s Deli on Centerville Road on Thursday, Aug. 12, from 5 to 9 p.m. and 25 percent of your bill will benefit our mission trip to Wachara, Kenya. AND, eat at Tropical Smoothie Cafe in Lititz on Sunday, Aug.15, from 12-6 p.m. and 25 percent of your bill will benefit Building Hope, too! Copies of the fliers you will need to present when you pay your bill (valid for dining in or for take-out) are available at the Building Hope table in the lobby.
PASTOR JOHN’S PRINTS
Pastor John will be selling prints of some of his artwork to benefit Building Hope. You can see his paintings and purchase prints in the Spirit Cafe today.
DONATION STATION FOR AUGUST
The LUMINA School Uniform Bank at Pearl Street UMC has served approximately 1,800 students each year, providing, on average, two sets of uniforms for each child in the School District of Lancaster’s homeless students program. You can help by providing new or gently used uniform clothing this month. In addition, we are still collecting fresh vegetables and fruits through September for the Garden Harvest ministry. Stop by the donation station to pick up the list of clothing for the uniform bank.
